My Students

Save my sanity! My 18 percussionists are good kids that practice all the time...on anything they can get a rebound on. No chair, stand, or school textbook is safe in my band-room.

My student percussionists are doing very well and do a good job practicing their materials.

In just the last few years, the percussion studio at my school has gone from never being exposed to percussion ensemble literature to making superior ratings at state contest. They meet my expectations, sometimes to my surprise because I keep really high standards for them.

My Project

I am requesting 10, double sided, percussion pads. These are very durable and I'm sure that once I have these, they will be helping kids for many years to come. They also are very versatile; their uses can be applied to all of the marching, percussion instruments and the rhythmic element can be applied to every percussion instrument. Most band music is written for 6-8 percussion parts so there is often times in class when I simply don't have enough music or instruments to keep them all engaged and involved. I would use the percussion pads to get all of my percussionists involved during class so they could all have something to play!

Many students in my band are living less than stellar conditions.

Most of my percussionists are in that section because they wanted to be in band but couldn't afford an instrument. Getting something new to play on in class and take home to practice will have a much bigger impact that you would expect to get from something that only costs $35. With this project, they will have something to keep them all involved in class and excited about band.
