My Students

Getting Game @ your Library! Gaming in libraries is a phenomenon that has caught fire. I started a Games Club 2 years ago, with great success. I would like to provide more active games for my students, which will encourage friendly, healthy competition with each other, and less sitting.

This is a small, rural middle school in New York, with a moderately poor population.

We recently experienced massive flooding in this area and many students lost homes. Some families have been displaced, others are starting to rebuild their lives from scratch. They do well academically, in spite of a school budget that keeps getting cut year after year. The students in the library Games Club run the gamut from those being involved in many activities and come to challenge their mental skills to those who would have no opportunity to play electronic games at home.

My Project

With a Wii Game Console and Sports games, my students will be able to participate in our Games Club in a healthy, active way. With childhood obesity being a concern, nationwide, this will encourage exercise and movement in a fun format. Winter can be long and cold in N.Y. and using the Wii will provide activity that may not happen otherwise if students stay indoors. It will also improve coordination and cardiovascular fitness.

With my library budget being at bare minimum, support for this project will enable me to provide a healthy, friendly outlet, while keeping my students involved in a currently popular trend - Gaming @ Your Library!
