My Students

Have you seen the cost of a gallon of gas lately? What about the cost of your monthly household energy bill? Energy costs and use seems to be spiraling out of control with no end in sight. My kids want to change that for their generation.

My kids attend a small, rural, high school.

I am their science teacher. Most of my kids come from low socioeconomic backgrounds. Many have only one parent at home or live with a relative. Few have parents that attended college. For many students, their parents never graduated from high school. It is important for these students generation to change the world they are going to be living in. Unless their generation learns to reduce their use of energy and increase the use of alternative, sustainable energy sources, they will be facing energy shortages and unaffordable energy.

My Project

My students have been using the alternative energy resources that we have previously received to learn as much as they can. They would like to have more resources about energy conservation and reducing our energy usage. We would like some books that my students can study to learn more. They will also access the Internet for virtual tours of alternative energy sites, meet experts in the field, as well as access digital libraries. We will use all of these materials to ensure students acquire the knowledge they need in order to prepare them for their future. By incorporating technology into the classroom with the camcorders, headphones, and laptop, my students will create public service announcements and podcasts to educate their peers at school about energy conservation. This will also help students stay abreast of current conditions in the world.

Please help my students educate their fellow students about energy conservation and sustainability while they are still young.

Then, as they become citizens in their communities, they will be able to make the right decisions about energy needs and use.
