Dummies for Smarties

My students need masks, tissue paper,and paper mache to make dummies. The boxes will be displayed along with the dummies at open house.

My Students

"The artist is a receptacle for emotions that come from all over the place; from the sky, from the earth, from a scrap of paper, from a passing shape, from a spider’s web" Picasso once said. My students will have the opportunity to create life like images of themselves to display during open house.

My students are pleasant, funny, optimistic, and very helpful around the classroom.

They are fourth graders who live in Southern California. They love to be creative, and they are enthusiastic about art. My students are eager to please, and are self motivated.

My Project

Our school's resources are running low, and we do not have the materials that we used to have to do all of our art projects. With the help of Donor's Choose, we will have the materials that we need to do a really fun project. My students will create life size dummies, that will be displayed at their seats during open house. These figures help my students to build self esteem. In the past when I have done this project, my students have fully enjoyed the whole process. They will learn how do do paper mache, draw faces, and create self images.

I have done this project in my classroom for the past 18 years.

Unfortunately, with California in an economic struggle, my school does not have all of the art supplies that it has had in the past. Thanks to Donor's Choose, this unique opportunity may continue for my class. The masks will be used for the faces of the dummies, the tissue paper and the paper will be utilized for the heads of the dummies. Also, the boxes will be used to enhance the image of a body with something in its hand.
