We Want to Read Chapter Books!

My students need 8 sets of chapter books to read during reading. Many of them are reading above level and we are in need of collections to read in a group.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love books and love to read! They are anxious to start reading novel sets during reading group. I want to continue to foster their love of reading and challenge the ones who are ready for more challenging books.

My students come from economically challenged homes.

Many do not have their own books at home. Parents depend on the school to send books home for their children to read. My students love to read. They have read almost all of the books in our classroom library. They are now ready to be challenged and start reading chapter books. I want them to continue to enjoy reading and hope they leave me with a life-long yearning to read for fun!

My Project

Having chapter books and books sets will allow my students to increase their fluency and comprehension. We will be able to use the book sets in our reading groups. Students will also be allowed to take the books home for a period of time to read. I have preached to my class that reading is the foundation to EVERYTHING we do. My goal is for them to leave second grade reading above level, so they will not struggle with reading in the future.

The top ten ways to becoming a better reader: Read, read, read, read, read, read, read, read, read, read!

Putting a book in the hands of a child will open the possibilities for his/her future.
