My Students

Learning to read can be so fun and exciting for a young student - especially when he or she has the right tools! Imagine the delight and pride children feel when they read their first books.

I work at a low income school with a group of kids that are eager and excited to learn despite their sometimes challenging circumstances.

71% of the students at my school qualify for free or reduced lunch. I have 23 lively kindergarteners in my class - 13 boys and 10 girls. The demographics of our school are 50% Latino/a, 22% Caucasian, 23% African American, and 5% mixed/Asian.

My Project

My students will use these sight word readers to begin their reading journey. These sight word readers will allow students to learn to read with words they already know or can easily figure out using picture and letter sound clues. This is my second year teaching and my library has very limited leveled readers. I love seeing my students get excited when they are successful in reading and I know these books will help boost their confidence and help build them into proficient, and more importantly, passionate readers!

It is so important for students to have books that are just right for their literacy levels.

These books would make an incredible difference in their learning process. It is so important to build a strong reading foundation at this young age when school and learning is still so fun and exciting. These books would be the stepping stones my students need to be successful readers now, and throughout their schooling. Please help change my students lives!
