My Students

Help me light the fire for the love of reading in my first grade students by integrating technology and literacy with two new Kindle Fires!

We are 18 first grade students from a rural elementary school.

Our district is at the moderate poverty level. With the many changes in recent years, supply budgets are being cut and getting new technology in the hands of our students will become more difficult. I believe that this technology will spark interest in my first grade readers and help increase their excitement to read more everyday.

My Project

21st Century students are wired to use technology. It drives their learning. I feel integrating technology into the classroom is so important in today's world. Reading and literacy is a driving force in my classroom and I would like to add two Kindle Fires to use during literacy centers. I would have many different level guided reading books downloaded to the Kindle Fires for students to read during independent reading time in our literacy centers. There are also numerous phonics apps that can be downloaded to use to help increase my student's phonetic awareness and word building skills which will also enhance their reading and writing. These Kindle Fires would be used on a daily basis throughout the school day.

I can just imagine my student's eyes light up when they get to use a Kindle Fire during literacy centers.

It would be so exciting to get some of the newest technology in the hands of my first graders to help build their literacy skills in reading and writing.
