Learning with Reading

My students need an assortment of biography books so that we can learn how to write an essay with facts from a book, and then we turn that into a 1 minute summary for our wax museum.

My Students

Do you remember dressing up as someone else? My students are going to be creating their own wax museum! I want to teach students how to read informational books and create a 5 paragraph essay from it. Afterwards from that essay we turn it into a 1 min. talk. Finally we have them create a wax museum.

Ni Hao!

We are in Chinese immersion program in a public school. They attend a class where the teacher only speaks and writes in Chinese and they are challenged to do the same. The learn Chinese, math, and science all in Chinese. Then for the rest of the day they come to my class to learn reading and writing in English. I also though have to go over math and science to make sure that they are understanding the concepts that are being taught in Chinese. They are very smart students who love to learn. They love putting on plays and doing extra activities like wax museums to help them learn new concepts.

My Project

My students love to learn and I love help them find fun ways to learn. With this project we are asking for biography books. They are going to read their books and with facts from the books do a five paragraph outline. Afterwards they turn the outline into a draft of the paragraphs. Then we do a final draft. Then the part they love comes, they get to learn how to present and a talk. Afterwards we create our, "Historical Wax Museum". They dress up as the person and we create a button that people push so they can move and talk. We have parents, staff, and classes come to view their wax museum. Students immensely enjoy this project and find a new love for learning.

With this project I want students love for learning to grow.

I know they will learn many skills that will help them in school years to come and in future jobs. I believe with this project I will help many students this year and in years to come improve their reading, writing, public speaking, and confidence.
