My Students

"We are young leaders of the world," my students chant as we start our school day in order to help them visualize their learning and leadership potential. My students are learning to identify as young leaders in our dynamic, special education classroom in New Orleans.

My dear 4th and 5th grade student leaders have diverse strengths that help them over come their learning disabilities.

They are working to grow two years in math and reading in order to reach grade level. With the challenges of overcoming their behavioral and academic learning barriers, we need all the support to provide engaging and individualized learning opportunities. My students love to read stories, but because they are academically behind (my fourth graders are on a first grade reading level) they need the additional supports of audio and kinesthetic learning. They love to see their own academic growth and their peers succeed, so we all cheer each other on with "G-double O-D J-O-B, Good Job, Good Job". I try my best to install teamwork and leadership activities into our academic learning goals and they love it.

My Project

Our school and students believe that all students can and will learn best in a supported and engaging environment. With your generous support, we can provide interactive listening centers for our students with unique learning needs to gain the skills in math and reading they need to succeed. I not only service a 15 student classroom, but also manage the entire special education department. This resource will support all our struggling learners. While our students engage in the listening center, they are also learning how develop teamwork skills in a structured and interactive learning environment. With a learning center for both math and reading, this renowned instructional resource will allow the teacher to work with students individually as students are engaged practicing fundamental academic skills. Our goal is to improve social behavior functions while developing each student’s fundamental academic skills and creative potential.

My students are beginning to identify themselves as young leaders of the world because they are starting to visualize and believe in their academic success!
