My Students

I am always looking for ways to improve and promote student success. Meeting the needs of my students while integrating multiple subjects is extremely important in ensuring their success in Kindergarten. Using the CD read-along sets will help me meet my students’ individual needs.

I work in a public Kindergarten classroom with 24 students.

My students are an energetic group of diverse learners. Students come to my classroom from all types of backgrounds. Because of this, I try to individualize instruction as much as possible. My students are excited about learning and love reading and being read to. My school is located in a suburban community next to one of the largest metropolitan areas in Mississippi. Over half of our students are free or reduced lunch.

My Project

Listening centers help students with different learning styles and ability levels enjoy the same stories as their classmates, as well as expose them to many different books and genres. Having the opportunity to listen to books on CD will help improve my students fluency, learn how to track print, pay attention to punctuation, and read with expression. My objective in incorporating listening centers in my classroom includes developing language skills, enhancing pre-reading skills, learning to follow directions, working independently, gathering information, and connecting stories to pictures. Because this approach is motivating and engaging to the students it helps students to listen with increased attention. By enjoying their favorite stories on their own, students gain the confidence they need to become independent readers.

This single student CD read-along library will be used for many years potentially creating a love of reading in hundreds of students’ hearts.

Because the students will be the only ones listening to the book, they will be able to each choose a book that interests them. This will help students stay engaged in their listening center. Because the students will be able to choose a book at their individual level, they will feel successful. Please help me provide this opportunity for my students!
