Daily Reading with Weekly Readers

My students need 27 Weekly Reader magazines to fill in the gaps as we focus on kindergarten standards.

My Students

I'm a proud South Carolina teacher of 27 curious Kindergarten students in a Title I school. Over 90% of my students live under the poverty level and receive free lunch. Regardless of our circumstances, my students are excited and ready to learn, but we need engaging materials.

Five and six year old children need a concrete example of the world around them.

Because of limited resources, Weekly Readers would allow my students to experience places outside our community. This resource would allow my students to have a visual aid to view current events as well as many topics that would be aligned with our Science and Social Studies standards.

My Project

A subscription to Weekly Reader would provide my students with a fun, exciting and stimulating view of our world all around us. This would expand their knowledge of people, places and things outside their ordinary way of life. Having a subscription for Weekly Reader would be a wonderful addition to my classroom curriculum. It would be something that students could share with their families and keep for additional reading all year. Each issue covers current events and is focused on Social Studies and Science topics. Weekly Reader correlates each issue to important key standards in Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies.

Scientific concepts are broad and require materials that the children can put their hands on daily.

We appreciate you considering our project and hope that you will be able to help us.
