Exciting Applications of Calculus with Technology

My Students

My students will become the engineers of tomorrow. One of my students told me the most exciting part of her childhood is losing the directions to her Lego set. She got to design her own space shuttle. I try to give these students access to as much technology as possible.

Many of my students are from low income families; they know their ticket to the future is their education.

I also have students from high income families; these are the first students to bring the newest technology to class. Since my students are used to a very diverse environment, they enjoy sharing technology and discovering technological advances together. I try to provide my AP Calculus students with as much cutting edge technology as possible.

My Project

There are many free calculus apps for tablets. The ones that I have previewed give amazing graphing capabilities. My course covers Calculus I and II, and the apps I look forward to using will give the students the ability to explore slope fields, derivatives, integrals, and Taylor series. The students will be able to understand the concepts better due to the ability to see the graphs and computations.

By obtaining a tablet for the classroom, the students can see how mathematics uses technology, but also how mathematics drives technology.

My students love mathematics and they love technology; I want to provide the engineers of tomorrow with the ability to become familiar with technological applications they will be encountering in college and beyond.
