My students need a laptop computer to be in the loop with all the new technology available to enhance their education and to prepare them for tomorrow's workplace.
Technology allows students to have the world at their fingertips. Because my students have limited access to technology due to their environment, the lack of technology skills has become a barrier for them. A laptop would allow students to practice skills at home as well as school.
I teach special needs students in kindergarten through fifth grade in a rural district.
Seven out of ten students are from single parent economically disadvantaged homes. My students do not have the advantage other student have because they do not have computers in their home. It is essential that I teach these skills in the classroom to enable them to be prepared for technology they are expected to be able to use in middle school and beyond. Since our school just obtained wireless Internet, a laptop would allow students to use the laptop anywhere in the school. I also plan to facilitate parent workshops to teach parents how to use the computer to enhance their child's learning. Our district has purchased many computer programs for our children. But if parents do not know how to assess these programs they are of no value to our students. I feel if parents are empowered with computer skills they will go to our local library to work on these online programs with their students.
My Project
A classroom laptop would make technology portable for my students. They would be able to work on the laptop anywhere on our campus. A laptop would open many new doors for learning and communicating with students around the world through the use of Skype. Teaching multi-grades, kindergarten through fifth, a laptop would provide students with highly engaging learning tool that is adaptable the the needs of each student. There are thousands of free educational websites to enhance reading, math, language skills, science and social studies. Often children do not understand the world beyond their backdoor. But with programs like Google Earth, United Streaming and Youtube you can bring the world to them!
Thank you for considering helping my students become better learning and computer literate in the 21st century.
Together we can help them become ready to take on our wonderful world with confidence and excitement. Remember it takes a village to educate a child and we can be a TEAM(Together Everyone Achieves More).
Once again, Thank you.
