Helping Kids Visualize Math With Graphing Calculators
My students need 4 Texas Instrument 84 Plus Graphing Calculators to be able to add to our partial class set we already have.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Katz's classroom raised $774

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine learning math by seeing the visual representation so you can understand why and how it all works. This is the wonderful ability a graphing calculator has for my students. I have my students investigate and explore as I teach them Algebra and other math courses.
My students come from low-income families and they have chosen to come to our school by applying specifically.
Their home schools may have gang problems and they face different issues which sometimes affect their learning. Because they have applied through "school choice" they are motivated and eager to learn. My goal for them is to go as far in math as they possibly can and enjoy the experience in every course they take.
My Project
My students are hard-working and by giving them the opportunity to use this tool in the classroom they are learning math with a fresh, new approach which motivates them to continue to work hard. It is so gratifying when I see that "light bulb" when a concept is clear to them. We all get excited and the classroom is full of life.
Hands-on experiences like these encourage them. They will be able to see graphs quickly and how they change depending on how the equation changes. They will be able to do real-world experiments so they can understand the meaning of the work they are doing. These calculators can be used in all levels of math I teach.
I am short of the calculator right now.
If I had only 4 more I would have enough for every student to use their own during class. Right now they are forced to share with each other which means that not every student is getting the full benefit of this amazing tool.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
