My Students

Waves are everywhere, yet hard to define and often invisible. Help us bring a Bell Labs wave demonstrator into our Physics classroom to help students see waves more clearly.

My students come from a variety of cultural and economic backgrounds.

Our school is a high-performing public school with a diverse student body. We have limited resources. We rely on parents and outside support during tough economic times to maintain our high standards and rigorous curriculum. Many of my students intend to go into STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) careers. They are excited about Physics! I try to create engaging, hands-on experiences that will teach the California standards, while preparing students with critical writing, math and analytical skills they will need in college. I teach four sections of Physics, two AP Physics and two regular Physics. All four sections will benefit from this equipment.

My Project

My Physics students study waves extensively. This Bell Labs demonstrator is an ideal apparatus for viewing nearly every possible wave interaction and gaining a deep understanding of terms such as refraction, reflection, superposition, nodes, antinodes, transverse, pulse wave, frequency, wavelength, amplitude, wave speed etc. The general characteristics of waves apply not only to water and sound, but also to visible light, radio waves, and other electromagnetic waves.

Waves will be a visual, tactile subject in Physics class with this high-quality Bell Labs wave demonstrator.

With this equipment, students will gain a deep understanding of key concepts which will serve them in many different content areas. They will study everything from AM radio waves, to earthquake waves, to sound waves in musical instruments, to quantum wave theory.
