My students need 20 seat pockets in order for them to have their picture communication books in a consistent location and easily assessable.

My Students

"My picture communication book is my voice" My students are non-verbal autistic pre-school children who are using pictures of various desired objects to communicate their wants and needs.

Our school, located in New York City has three pre-school classes for children with various disabilities including autism.

The majority of the children are non verbal and relay on pictures and other electronic devices to communicate. These communication devices are the child's only way to communicate and need to available to them in a known location.

My Project

We have all had laryngitis at one time. Remember how it felt not being able to talk and communicate. My student's feel like that all the time. There communication picture books are their voice. They need to be able to locate their book in an instant, retrieve the picture they need and bring it to a communicative partner to get the item they want. The "Seat Pockets" I am requesting will be put on the back of each student's chair allowing their picture communication books to be placed inside. The children will learn that if they need their book it will be in the pocket on their chair.

Imagine what it's like for my non verbal student's to tell someone they are hungry or tired.

Their picture communication books are their voice and need to be in a safe consistent place. Please help fund my project so my student's will always have their voice(pictures) in a safe and consistent location.
