Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students learn best through experience and practice. My Virtual Enterprise class has 18 students. The HD Camcorder will provide all my students access to using this media in conjunction with Apple I movie to produce commercial for their student run business.

My students are dynamic go-getters who are eager to learn about the business world.

Most of them live in single-parent households and are first generation Americans. They are twelfth graders who are preparing for college and futures careers in advertising, accounting and business management. Our school is a Federal Magnet School with a theme of Applied Global Technology. It is in our mission to use technology to prepare our students to be competitive in the growing global community. However funding for technology is becoming increasingly scarce. These young adults live in a high poverty area of the Bronx and 80% of them live under the poverty threshold. It is my goal as a teacher to provide hands-on opportunities for my students to experience the individual steps it takes to coordinate and complete projects. I believe these experiences provide overwhelming support to classroom instruction.

My Project

My Virtual Enterprise students are preparing for business and technology related careers. They compete in Business plan, Website, Catalog, Marketing, and Advertising competition on the local, citywide, and national levels throughout the school year. Many of my students live below the poverty threshold. This resource will change their lives in a number of ways: They will learn how to produce a commercial to promote their company. They will be able to record and edit the screens they design. My students would like to produce quality advertising materials. They need a High Definition Camcorder to produce a commercial to promote their business. My students have the skills to complete the project they just need the resources. Please help promote hands-on learning with a new camcorder.

Investing in my students' future can lead to the following outcomes: It will inspire students to achieve success, aid students in building employable skills, show students the power of philanthropy, and inspire students to give back to help other the way they have been helped.
