My Students

Being one of the tallest students in class, I was seated in the back of the room. I also had the worst eye sight, and could not see any up close work, or board work. I want to be able to use technology and have the work accessible to all students! No one need be left behind because of proximity!

I teach in a public school, 36 students on average, with abilities ranging from special needs to very high ability.

My classroom is arranged with one large central area for whole class instruction, and several smaller learning areas for more individualized learning. It is difficult for every student to see the front of the room at all times, so being able to have a document reader projecting work onto a screen would make instructions, reading, material, even detailed art and science work, more readily accessible to everyone, allowing for greater ease of instruction during whole class time, and more independence of work. Students could interact within the small groups while other groups can access instructions on the overhead screen. My students love to move around the room to get materials they need for their small groups; the white board area will be free if differentiated instructions are on the screen overhead.

My Project

This project is only part of the whole picture. The document reader (ELMO) must then be connected to a projector. The entire bundle is over my spending limit right now, so I'm doing this in parts. The (ELMO) can project anything onto a screen in the front of the room. It can allow teacher and students to demonstrate writing and editing with exact clarifications, art projects with specific details, and be hooked into a computer to display digital workbooks or teaching tools on a broad scale. All students will be able to a part of each lesson, everyone could see all the work, and it could free up space around the room for our small group settings. No space would be compromised. The power strip will be used to plug in the computer and the document reader.

Accessibility to all details of curriculum is the key to success.

Motivation is gained when every moment of the day is engaging. This tool allows for a marriage of technology and personal instruction.
