My Students

Do you like to listen to music? My students love to listen to music. We learn about all different types of music in class. I would like to incorporate the music my students listen to at home into my music curriculum.

I teach middle school music in an urban, low-income area.

Our school is currently going through a major budget crisis. Our supplies are extremely limited and a request such as this, won't be honored. There simply isn't enough money. My students love to listen to music and come to class full of energy.

My Project

I am requesting a classroom subscription to In Tune magazine. This magazine will help bridge the gap between what my students are learning in music class and what they are listening to at home. In Tune gives young musicians essential insights into a wide variety of musical genres, instruments and technology. It explores the music they are passionate about and explains in the simplest terms how it is made, learned, performed, recorded, and distributed.

With your support, I will be able to show my students how the music they listen to at home has the elements of music that we learn about in class.

By linking the traditional music curriculum to today's world of music outside the classroom, In Tune reveals the broadest range of options for continuing musical education, skills development, careers in the arts and music's integral and enduring role in life.
