Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever been working on something really important on your computer when suddenly in a flash the screen goes an ominous pitch black, and with an impending sense of doom you know all your hard work has disappeared? Unfortunately, I have experienced that often during very important IEP meetings.

My students are in a pre-school mixed class.

They are from 3-5 years old, and eligible for special education services under various eligibilities. We have a zero reject policy which means we provide services for students with Autism, Down Syndrome, Developmental Delays, Established Medical Disabilities, and so on. The majority of the students qualify for transportation and the free meal cafeteria program. The majority of my students are also English Language Learners. They are adorable kids with an enormous capacity to love and to learn. Students will be able to access interactive computer lessons. They will be able to listen to stories online increasing listening comprehension, vocabulary, phonological awareness and motivation to read. Games such as Millie's Math House will be a new way for the kids to learn geometry, spatial sense, patterns, numbers and operations. This will be a great resource for students who have difficulty learning through traditional means of presenting lessons.

My Project

An Individualized Education Plan is one of the most important documents a child with special needs has during their time in school. Our school utilizes the an on-line system to input the IEP education plan. The IEP plan covers how they are currently doing in school, what goals they will be working on in the following year, the type of services they qualify for, and any assessments from service providers. Parents and legal guardians are active participants in the IEP meeting. This is the time where they express their concerns, provide valid input on what type of goals they would like for their child and what type of services they think their child may need. All of the information is then entered onto the on-line system. Having a working computer will allow for all of the team members to take turns entering their information without worrying the computer is going to freeze or crash.

By donating to fund this project you are ensuring for many years to come that the valuable collaboration between teachers, families, service providers, and administrators remains possible.

By removing the constant annoyance that failing technology has during important IEP meetings means that we will be able to focus on important areas like our students. A portable laptop will also allow for it to be utilized in the classroom providing students with access to educational programs. Thank you.
