Organizing Our Classroom

My Students

Students in my classroom struggle with reading. When reading is such a problem, it is important to integrate it into everything you are learning. This is what organizational materials will help our students do, when they can conveniently find their reading materials.

The Middle School at which I work is populated with predominately low-income students.

Every student at this school has bought into the idea that they are scholars who can work hard to reach their goals in life, whatever they may be. We walk through the halls referring to each other as scholars, and constantly plan for a future that includes a full education. These students need to feel safe and comfortable in their school home, therefore the organizational materials will help these students learn about science, improve their reading, and make them feel at home.

My Project

The students that attend this Middle School in Oklahoma are energetic about learning and have high hopes for their future, such as being a doctor, scientist, dentist, or lawyer. It is important that I help these students reach their goals. The only problem is that many of them read at least 2 grade levels below what they should. Every student is from a low income family, lives in the low-income side of town, and attends a school that works hard to make sure that every student has the opportunity to attend a 4-year university. It is important that, through reading in Science class, these students will be able to bring their reading level up to their current grade, and even higher. There are many obstacles, but these students are resilient, as is the staff, and with your help, we can provide these children with the possibility of attending a 4-year university. Students will use the tubs and hanging folders for their articles they are reading and to store their journals.

Science is a very interesting subject to students and they are very inquisitive.

When we can combine reading and science, the students will not only be interested in what they are reading, but will practice their reading, grow their comprehension, and simultaneously, put them one step closer to their dream of being a scholar! These organizational materials will help students find the reading materials they need to put them on the right track to their bright futures.
