My Students

My students are learning the new math core curriculum. They need practice in a variety of math skills such as measurement, algebra, problem solving, number sense, geometry, and computation. They need to be focused and practicing these skills independently during math time.

My 19 students attend a Title I school.

Our school has a large English language learner population and a large number of homeless children. 100% of the students receive free lunch and they also have free breakfast in the classroom. My students work hard and love being in school.

My Project

Many of the students enter first grade below grade level in math. They need help with basic skills such as counting, adding, and subtracting. I take small groups of children and teach them these skills while the other students work in math centers. The math games we would like in our classroom are colorful, fun, and engaging. The students will be able to work independently at their desks while I help students who really need it.

With these new materials, my students will be able to spend independent math time working in the four critical areas of the new math common core curriculum.

They will be solving addition and subtraction problems, understanding whole numbers and their values, understanding linear measurement, and they will have opportunities to compose and decompose shapes. The math centers will help the students meet the requirements of the new math core curriculum.
