My Students

My students have very few books in their homes. They depend upon my classroom to provide those engaging books. They love the books we have on CD because they can sit down with them and read them anytime. We need more books on CD so the students are reading all the time.

My 19 students attend a Title I school.

100% of the students receive free lunch and breakfast in the classroom. My school has a large homeless population and a large population of students learning English. The students in my class are the greatest kids. They work hard in class and love to be read to.

My Project

Research shows that reading fluency increases through listening to books on tape and CD. I want to utilize the listening centers in my classroom as much as possible. My students need a variety of books on CD to choose from so they are excited about reading. Some of my students come from homes where the primary language is Spanish. These children need to be immersed in the English language so they learn it quickly.

A donation to this project will make a great difference in the lives of my students.

There are few, if any, books in the homes of these children. School is where they are exposed to books and have the opportunity to explore them. If they have a wide variety of books on CD to choose from, the students can change the the tapes and books and read for as long as they want during reading center time. Help my students learn to read!
