My Students

On the first day of school, I ask my students a simple question. Why were you born? While all responses are accepted on that first day, only one response is accepted for the remainder of the year. Today, all of my students know they were born "to make the world better."

I teach a wide variety of students at a public middle school centered in an economically distressed community.

Half of my classes are composed of ESE students with learning disabilities while the other half is composed of advanced/honor students. On either side of the spectrum, a high percentage of my students are enrolled in our district's free/reduced lunch program. Our school is a safe haven for scholars with families who are losing their homes and jobs.

My Project

My STEM-ologists are creating STEM learning boxes designed to enrich student learning with 21st Century math, technology, engineering and science tools. Each learning box addresses a community problem that my students identified and set out to solve. It includes a video that describes the problem, a written experiment, and the supplies to conduct the experiment. Students will present their learning boxes to the community at the end of the school-year and then donate them to our school's STEM lab where they can be enjoyed by other classrooms. I am looking for sponsors to furnish students with STEM lab supplies and lab coats for the purpose of engaging students and our community in the STEM curriculum.

I believe that lab coats will not only serve to protect student clothing, but they will also help to authenticate student learning and promote a professional atmosphere while the young scholars are engaged in real world experiments.

The lab kit and demonstration tools will enrich the learning of my students as well as the community members they reach. Please help my students make the world better!
