Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The clear majority of my students come from high poverty homes. Many of them have access to no technology, except for what we have at school and (if their lucky and have parents who take them) at the public library. School is, for many of them, the sole opportunity for exposure to technology.

I work in a public elementary school in rural Iowa, where we have a diverse population.

Many students do not speak English when they begin at our school, in fact several arrive directly from other countries throughout the school year. Although these kids face many more challenges than the average student, they are no less lovable and teachable. They want to learn, they love to learn, and I want to capitalize on that desire.

My Project

I'm requesting a color printer and replacement ink for our classroom. We currently have no access to a color printer at our school, and many of the creative projects my students work on would be greatly enhanced by printing their things on a color printer. Some examples of things students will use the printer for are Wordles they've created, Prezi presentations, posters/signs/flyers, or printing photos for writing projects. Having an environment rich with colorful, student-created documents, graphics, and photos will have a tremendously positive impact on student learning and achievement.

I want to instill in my students that they can succeed, that I believe in them, and that by being creative and following their dreams they will thrive.

Having a color printer in our school will help me do this for my students.
