My Students

Who does not like to celebrate accomplishments? Typically, celebrations are associated with sugary drinks, chips, and sweets.

My school is a high poverty school with approximately 95% of the students on free or reduced lunch.

This year, I have students who enjoy writing. Once a month we have an authoring party to celebrate our writing. Parties and sweets are oftentimes combined, and unfortunately there are correlations between poverty and obesity. With childhood obesity on the rise, we want to take a healthier approach to our celebrations.

My Project

The blender I am requesting will be used to blend healthy smoothies to enjoy during our authoring parties. The Nook will be used to access cooking apps to locate recipes and promote measuring skills. It will also be used to subscribe to health and wellness magazines as well as sports magazines to encourage active living.

This project will touch upon several disciplines.

It will help celebrate our writing while informing students of healthy eating choices. Creating tasty smoothies will reinforce measurement skills. This is a small step to combat childhood obesity.
