My Students

Can you imagine what great still photos and high-definition videos my ELL students will be able to capture if we had a Nikon megapixel digital camera in the classroom. Utilizing a digital camera will enhance their writing projects, art projects, and much more.

We are a Title 1 school in Nevada where over fifty percent of our students are English language learners and 100% FREE breakfast and lunch.

Many of them are considered homeless and may not have the exposure to English language as needed in order for them to perform at grade level. As a result, their reading and writing skills are sometimes one or two grades below average. Unfortunately, many of the ELL students in my school do not have a digital camera at home. I would like to give them the opportunity to gain interest in taking vivid, one of kind photos that will inspire them to become creative writers.

My Project

Utilizing a digital camera will enhance class writing projects in which my ELL students normally insert clip-art. It would be great for them to use their authentic, one of kind photographs in their PowerPoint’s and stories. Students will be able to complete many projects that will spark their imagination and get their creative juices flowing. As an ELL specialist I will be able to create lessons that demonstrate targeted vocabulary and compare/contrast using photos that the students or I take. In preparation for the state Writing Exam, students will be motivated to write descriptive narratives of their special events and then insert photographs into their writing.

My ELL students would truly enjoy taking pictures of cultural events, field trips or special student performances and then putting together a PowerPoint presentation for parents and school visitors.

The best thing is that this camera does not use regular batteries; instead it has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can be recharged with the AC adapter.
