Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come to school at the beginning of the year not knowing a single letter, and by the end of the year they are READING! Learning should be FUN, especially when you're five years old, but we need your help!

I teach full day Kindergarten at a Title 1 School.

We are located in one of the poorest rural areas of the state. Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced lunch. The student population is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. About 70% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. However, our kids are nothing short of amazing. They come to school every day eager to learn and grow!

My Project

My Kindergarten students need educational tools to help them become proficient in the sight words and begin to read. We are requesting the Sight-Words Instant Learning Center, where students master 32 high frequency words, with a ready-to-use activity center they can explore on their own. We are also requesting the Magnetic Sentence Sight-Word Board. Even the youngest readers can build tons of simple, sight-word sentences on this, and they also build vocabulary and reading fluency as they read each sentence aloud. Lastly, we need a class set of Sight-Word Take Home Rings, which will allow the students to practice their words at home. Using these literacy resources in my kinder classroom will most definitely increase my students' academic achievement. They will improve their literacy skills and be on their way to becoming high achieving readers and writers.

The sight-word games that I am requesting will enrich the learning for the students in my class. Best of all these materials will be used for many years, so your contribution will have a far-reaching impact on the students in my school and community.
