My Students

Let's face it, text books are boring! I can't recall ever seeing students excited and engaged when reading a text book. But give them a hands-on project or activity and you will see excitement and learning taking place.

I am honored this year to be teaching 27 enthusiastic fifth graders in a Title One school in rural North Carolina.

Most of the students in our school are Native American. They each come with their own unique learning styles and abilities. But, one thing they all have in common is their love for science and hands-on investigations.

My Project

We will soon begin our study of Motion and Forces. With the Motion and Forces Activity Tub, students will race cars down ramps, build their own roller coasters, watch balloon rockets zoom by and get an exciting look at force and motion in action! The Motion and Forces skill-building library features 5 fascinating books that reinforce and expand on the themes presented in the Force and Motion Activity Tub. The high-interest titles and colorful illustrations will make concepts super-easy to grasp.

Your donations to this project will enable students to describe Newton’s Laws of Motion and identify examples of these laws at work in the world around them.

They will know that unbalanced forces cause changes in the speed of an object’s motion and they will understand qualities of motion including position, velocity, acceleration, and momentum, as well as forces which hinder motion, like friction. Seeing science processes in action is a winning strategy for high engagement and high retention.
