Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Remember a time when you needed exact change? Were you able to sit and count your coins effortlessly? What if you weren't able to physically touch your coins? Or see them? Would you still be successful in providing the exact amount of money?

My second grade scholars attend a charter school located in the South Bronx in New York City.

The scholars are highly motivated to succeed and their determination is contagious. Our school has be trying to find the funding to provide the necessary resources to our scholars, however during these difficult times money is scarce.

My Project

With the math counters and manipulatives my scholars will have the ability to see and touch concepts we are learning. The coins will allow students to physically move and build an amount of money as opposed to just using their imagination or creating drawings. The games will help reinforce the skills we are learning around our unit in Money. This math unit is so crucial and critical because it is the foundation of a life skill that they are going to need as future leaders in our country.

Within the unit we add, subtract, and compare amounts of money.

Without these resources students tend to find this unit difficult due to the lack of hands on learning. With these resources my second grade scholars will be given an opportunity to work to their full potential. Please support my class in learning such an important life skill that they will need and use for the rest of their lives.
