My Students

Coloring, cutting, and pasting - OH MY! Remember the good ol' days of using all learning styles to reinforce what your teacher just taught you. I would like for my kids to have the opportunity to do that again. With these materials we can incorporate all learning styles to build on lectures.

My students are from a community that doesn't even have a flashing red light.

The only traffic signal here is one two way stop sign on the main highway. These students come from families that are in a small town and extremely rural. Some of these families do not have access to basic necessities such as transportation to larger surrounding cities, much less extra funds for construction paper. In addition to being in a small town, rural area, the district has made cuts in this economy and one of the first things to go were art supplies.

My Project

My students will use the construction paper and over-sized white paper to enhance the lectures and book learning in the classroom. Many times lessons are easily expandable with the right supplies. But in my community getting some of the supplies needed for hands on learning is a luxury. With these materials we can build on the foundation provided by the text and expand the curriculum to include all learners. Just to mention a few, the students will use these materials to create word webs, book reports, various charts and graphs, flip books, and posters that all build on basic concepts taught in 5th grade Reading, English/Language Arts and Social Studies.

This project is important to our class because all kids want learning to be fun and interesting.

If we only use text books and workbooks without incorporating some exciting and fun ways of learning we will certainly have students who loose interest and fall behind.
