Diving for Diversity!

My students need materials to learn about other countries. We have 5 countries represented and we want them to be aware of their world. They need a Multicultural Stories Paperback Library, a Children of the World Book Set, and wireless headphones.

My Students

"What we have to do ... is to find a way to celebrate our diversity and debate our differences without fracturing our communities." ~Hillary Rodham Clinton My school is nearly 50% Hispanic, the most diverse school in the county and we want to excel in appreciating differences.

Four countries, other than our own, are represented in my classroom: Honduras, Mexico, El Salvador, and Africa.

Our first grade classroom reaches out to our community for projects to enhance life. For Christmas, we have adopted an elder in a nursing home. Our students want to make a difference and we want to help them learn more about their countries and the world we live in. Our school is more than 90% free and reduced lunch. Our students do not get experiences most children would receive.

My Project

We want our students to feel that every country is important and to end the fight of 'who is better'. We want our students to embrace the fact that more than 50% of our classroom can speak more than 1 language. With the resources provided, the students will be able to learn more about other countries as we also venture out for "Christmas around the World". The books and posters of other countries will be used to teach how unique differences can be. The wireless headphones will be used for the students to become more successful learning how to read and learning the English language.

Please help us in making our classroom a place for inspiring students to embrace their differences and find the unique personalities of others.

We want the things we teach in the classroom, acceptance, love, and independence to go outside the classroom. Please help us do just that.
