Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students all speak a language other than English in the home. When they come to school, they receive little support in the mainstream classroom. When they come to my classroom, I want to be able to provide plenty of examples, modeling and visual support.

I teach students in a high poverty area just outside of Washington, DC.

I am an ESOL teacher, so my students are all English language learners. I work at a k-5 school, but due to our high population of English language learners, there are 5 ESOL teachers at my school, and I primarily serve grades 2 and 4.

My Project

It is much easier to model my expectations, give examples and directions when students can see what I am doing easily. We have a projector, but a document camera would really make it easier for the students to see what I am doing. A document camera would allow me to project anything for students. This document camera would be shared by all of us on an as-needed basis, and would receive daily use, both during class time and during our after school program.

My students struggle hard to do well in school.

Many of my students are likely to drop out in high school unless they can learn the skills they need and become successful in school NOW. Please help me to help them succeed!
