This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Who doesn't enjoy listening to stories? All students love to hear their favorite stories being read aloud. With a listening center, my students will be able to hear their favorite stories read to them while I work with a small group.

My students attend a public school where 80% of the students receive free/reduced lunch.

They love listening to stories and I reread their favorite ones everyday! They feel very proud when they are able to read "hard" books all by themselves. Unfortunately, some of their favorites are still to hard for them to read on their own. A listening library would allow them to hear those stories often.

My Project

My students need headphones, a junction box, and 4 CD Read Along stories. I work with small groups to provide targeted reading instruction. During this time, the rest of the class works at literacy centers independently. A listening center would be a great addition to our classroom. With a listening center, students will have the opportunity to listen to stories, discuss the books with their classmates, and write about the books independently.

A listening library is a great way for students to enjoy stories even when the teacher is working with other students.

My students will refine their listening skills while they enjoy their favorite stories.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
