My Students

I want to ignite the minds of students in my classroom by giving students hands-on opportunities for 21st Century learning. 21st Century learning makes instruction more meaningful through integrating skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, creating and innovating, and communication.

The students in my classroom are eager and enthusiastic to learn.

We are in a rural setting in Minnesota where many students come from low income families. Our classroom has a wide range of abilities as we grow together as learners which possesses a challenge to meet the needs of each student and provide meaningful experiences for them each day developing the crucial 21st century skills necessary for them to succeed in our changing world. Despite these challenges we are excited to learn new information and enthusiastic to use technology in our learning whenever we can.

My Project

An iTouch will enhance student learning experience allowing them to use critical thinking skills utilizing apps to practice word work. They will have the chance to create podcasts to showcase their writing and demonstrate reading fluency. Students will also be able to blog to one another sharing comprehension strategies used during reading, methods of solving math problems, and hypotheses for science projects. Sharing these ideas through a blog not only makes it possible for students to share with one another but increases parent engagement into what is happening in their child's classroom by providing snapshot into what is being taught and discussed in our classroom.

Donating to this project will provide our classroom with a valuable tool that will not only engage each student in our classroom but greatly enhance the opportunities they have to learn each day.

In our classroom, I want to increase the application of 21st Century skills in daily teaching by using innovative technological devices, such as iPod Touches, to meet and exceed expectations we have set with our school mission to inspire life-long passion for learning in each and every student!
