My Students

John F. Kennedy said "Things don't happen, things are made to happen". This is true of all students and my Kindergarteners live it every day. They make their learning happen and they inspire each other. The manipulatives I have requested can allow them to MAKE math happen in a way they understand.

I have a class of 23 little Wonder Nuggets that love to learn!

They are energetic and enjoy school very much. Many of my kids have parents who members of the United States Marine Corps and many are deployed now. We are an Impact School of National Pride and they enjoy all aspects of being a Patriot at Stateside. My students are so eager when the manipulatives come out and I love their faces when they "get it" for the first time. Kindergarten is such a great time to learn and discover and explore what is in the world.

My Project

Math makes the world make sense. The resources that I selected for this project will give my kids hands on time with real objects that will turn abstract thoughts into concrete learning times. My "Wonder Nuggets" will be able to manipulate these items and change their ability to think! I am so excited to think about them playing and learning and doing and sharing all of the things that go with these math concepts. The Number Line Activity Chart will allow my students to manipulate numbers. The All About Numbers Chart will let my students see many of the ways numbers can be represented and then show their own way of representing a number. This will increase their number sense a great deal. The Slide and Count allows them to create and solve simple addition problems and gives them a visual reference to draw a mental picture.

These items will give my students the ability to show not only themselves but each other what math is about.

They will be able to demonstrate what they know in a way that is not "Test" driven, but I will be able to know what level they are on and what they can do and what they still need to learn. They will be able to "play" and gain valuable insight to numbers, number sense, the way to manipulate numbers.
