My Students

How excited are you the night before a holiday? Knowing you will see your family and friends and stuff your stomachs full. Often my kiddos dread going home during these long breaks knowing that these will not be joyful times. Help us make safety blankets for when times are not so kind.

I wake up excited to go to work everyday.

These kiddos have given me more satisfaction and love in the three months of school than I have had my entire life. These children inspire me to be great and help and love them as much as I can. Most of these children have experienced more in their short lives thus far, than I probably ever will. Things I cannot wrap my head around. Even though I love my job and I am passionate, it is not all rainbows and butterflies. A lot of these students are behind the eight-ball and will have to work very hard to catch-up. Some students come to school in the same ill-fitting clothing everyday and not dressed properly for the weather out-side. They are lucky to go to a school like ours with such supportive and hard working teachers committed to the best for each of these children.

My Project

Imagine being able to make something with your own hands that will be able to give you a sense of safety and accomplishment. That is what I want to do with a group of 5th grade students. I would like to make about 25 fleece blankets with the students in art club. The students will make them at school which is a safe place, with caring adults, a set schedule and two meals a day. They will take them home and be able to use it to wrap themselves up and feel safe, warm and comfy. Hopefully one day they will be able to take this experience and new skill and pay it forward.

This project will give these children a sense of pride, confidence and safety.
