My Students

We want our students to recognize that reporting news and events is more than just "celebrity" journalism. We want our students to see beyond bias and learn how important ethics are to a free journalistic environment.

Our students are considered to be academically gifted.

All of our students graduate and go on to institutions of higher learning. They want to explore other career paths in addition to the core requirements. While exploring these options, we want them to understand that there are limitations to a free press and that unethical behavior threatens all of us. Because we have a low poverty rate, we get NO federal funds. With the bleak economic climate we are in, there is no funding in our district for "additional" resources.

My Project

This project will enable our students to explore a career path in journalism. It will also expose them to issues that affect them and the world they live in. They will be able to enhance their research skills and gain a better understanding of issues that might be outside their realm of experience. We will be able to broadcast stories and events to the entire student body. Right now we do not have a camera or tripod in our school. This makes it impossible to have any type of broadcast, so that is why we are requesting a video camera and tripod.

By teaching the journalism students to research issues that are important to them, and by being able to broadcast their work, we will make an impact on the entire student body and make all of them aware of the issues that impact their community each day.
