My Students

Baseball, Basketball, or Football are your passion. You play the game, watch it on TV, and talk sports with your buddies. But when it comes to school and your teacher tells you to read a book for homework- there is not much to chose from that interests you.

Our middle school strives to provide the best education possible for our students.

We have received recognition from the state several years in a row for high performance. This community is committed to students achieving, but it is a rural area with limited resources and facing serious economic hardships. Our boys, like most all-American kids, love their baseball, basketball, and football. Team sports are big in this community. Reading isn't always a popular choice with boys, but when it comes to sports books, they can't get enough. Engaging middle school boys in reading requires having the books that they WANT to read available for them. My boys will read just about anything sports related, but they really get into the non-fiction sports books about the players and sports.

My Project

Adding books on baseball, basketball, and football to our library will give the boys something they WANT to read. Engaging them in reading helps them build skills in all of their subjects and time spent reading improves their performance in school. But, if there are no books that interest the boys, they will turn away from reading. We desperately need to add books about sports to our library collection so that there are books here that boys are interested in reading.

Engaging middle school boys in reading is my top priority.

Getting the right book in the boys hand makes a huge difference in whether they will read or not. My library budget has been slashed to the bone in the last few years and I need support to get more books for my boys.
