My Students

"Intelligent Musicians Make Intelligent Music" that is one of the mantras that guides our music program. With that in mind we have created a sequential music curriculum that takes high school students from simply enjoying music to truly engaging in the music creation process.

The students who participate in our music program come from a wide variety of backgrounds.

It is one of the most diverse student groups on our campus. One thing we have in common is our love for music and that we live in a rural community. Music has been a big part of our students high school experience with many of them involved in our performing groups for several years. Students also participate in our piano and guitar class which gives them a greater understanding of music and an opportunity to learn to play a instrument that they would not have otherwise.

My Project

Though rural, our area has experienced a large population growth in the past few years that has put a strain on our resources. We are in the process of moving into a new school building. Because of budget shortfalls will not be able to afford the equipment to furnish the new music facility. Imagine the disappointment in coming into a new building but still having the same outdated equipment or still not having enough. The keyboards will allow students to actually be able to practice and perform on full size keyboards. This will give them chance to perform at a level that they could only dream about.

The keyboards are reasonably priced and compliment our growing program.

Teenagers are naturally drawn to music and learning to express themselves through it effects their lives on so many levels. It gives them at least a positive activity in which to participate. For some students they discover their life long calling.
