Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Do you remember conducting science investigations in second grade? Probably not! The weather and water cycle unit is both exciting and challenging to the students. They need hands-on materials to grasp these difficult concepts. My budding scientists love to explore the world around them.

My students love to do science investigations!

Many of the students I teach are not exposed to science at home. The students attend a Title I school and many come from very low income homes. Our classroom has students from various countries and diverse backgrounds. They are young enough to be excited about the natural world around them but lack the exposure and experiences to investigate this world. Weather tools and scientific words are not commonly used outside of the classroom. This lack of exposure makes the concepts harder for these students to understand. There is much excitement whenever we do a hands-on science investigation! Help these students to become the scientists of tomorrow.

My Project

Student meteorologists who use thermometers, a rain gauge, an anemometer, weather chart, and weather tracking map will truly learn by doing. These students love to investigate the natural world around them. What better way than by using manipulative's to learn with. The weather activity tub has materials that the students can use independently! Second graders have an active imagination and pretending to be meteorologists is exciting to them. The weather vocabulary pocket chart, the weather and the water cycle learning center games, file folder games, and the wrap around science game will all have multiple uses. They can be used during science time as well as during our literature stations time of our reading block. So much learning goes on when science content is reinforced and continued to be taught during the reading block of the day.

Students learn best by doing.

Donations to this project will allow students to be meteorologists! What fun these students will have using the manipulative's that this project will provide for them. These future scientists will have a love of learning about science because it will be interesting and fun. This is what science should be about!
