Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember what is was like the first time you read a good book that you could not put down? Sometimes my students can not find the perfect book and they get lost in the library. They would have the possibility to choose and enjoy reading all the books they want to with the last technology.

I do not want to teach my students the old way.

They are digital natives what means their learning process is totally different than mine. They were born with the technology and they know how to use it without reading any directions at all. That is the way they deserve to learn. My students are eight years old. Most of them were born in the USA but their parents are immigrants. They are learning two languages at the same time and they are doing very well at school. Our school district has a very tight budget and we are not able to buy all we need in the classroom. At this point, the students need to improve reading fluency and develop strategies to improve their comprehension skills. They love technology because they were born when the Internet was already invented. I feel that I have to adapt my instruction to their era and introduce more technology in the classroom. I am what technology expert Marc Prensky calls "migrant digital" and my students are "native digital

My Project

These useful, simple, colorful, easy to use electronic book is what my students really enjoy reading to. The NOOK is a based touch device designed specifically for enjoying reading. The advantages are: •Individualized learning environment: Students are able to read, enjoy, comprehend, interact with the book, and love the reading classes. •Interactive: Students today are so used to immersive technology that using a NOOK in the classroom can increase their interaction with teaching-learning process. With teacher guidance, it allows students "choice" in how and what they read, instead of static materials they are typically used to. We hope to have your support to this great idea.

So imagine how a 8 year old feel when they have one in the classroom. Everybody loves reading that day! I hope all my students will love reading as much as I do. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.
