My Students

Our school is a school with high levels of poverty. Students don't have many opportunities to use technology to learn, develop, and grow. I want to be able to provide them with the opportunities to fit into the "digital native" label that has been thrust on their generation.

The students at my school are amazing.

They have proved time and time again that they are a community that supports and respects one another. They have an insatiable appetite for books and Playaways. They love to get their hands on new and interesting things that they have never seen before, or had the opportunity to work with. The school is warm and welcoming and encourages not only academics, but citizenship and place in society. Parents and other visitors talk about the atmosphere of the school being impressive and a trait that sets us apart from other schools in the area.

My Project

With the iPod touches, I want to teach my students how to take videos with them and edit them for production. They will get a chance to use a 21st-century technology and apply their skill set to create dynamic pieces that can be shared via youtube or other sites designed for children. The students will create book trailers that promote particular books, and they will also have the opportunity to create book reviews. They will learn how to feel comfortable using a recording device to promote an idea, they will learn how to implement new technology toward the completion of a project, and they will learn how to work collaboratively with other students, teachers, and the librarian to produce quality work.

The students at my school need opportunities that are not easy to come by.

Due to circumstances out of their control, the students at my school are not afforded the same chances or resources that many of their peers are able to have. I want them to be comfortable with the ever-changing world and have opportunities to showcase their strengths and artistic sides.
