My Students

Art is everywhere. It is an essential part of our society. I want my students to learn how to look through a camera with a photographer's eye and capture an intense love of art. The experience of learning Photography can be profound given the opportunity.

Our school is inner city with a large percentage being free and reduced lunch.

The 5th graders that I work with are very eager to use equipment they may not have at home. I have a variety of students that really need the opportunity to learn with a hands on approach.

My Project

My students will be learning about Photography. We will concentrate mainly on digital photography in my classroom but will touch on the basics of film photography as well. My students don't realize how much art they use on a daily basis. I want to open their eyes as to how much opportunity there is with a wealth of art knowledge. Photography is a large piece to that puzzle.

Some of my students don't even own a camera.

This would give them an opportunity to use equipment they might not otherwise use. It can also be a career opportunity for them later on in life. My curriculum can give them that information they need to make a smart career choice in the future. Photography can be great as a hobby or life long passion.
