My Students

I am a first year teacher, and think out of the box. As a paraprofessional I saw the positive impact technology has on the Special Needs population, when used correctly, and I intend to use whatever I can to teach my students.

My students have multiple abilities, and people need to see them for that.

They are amazing and have many different outspoken personalities. My students surprise me everyday. They attend a public school for Students with Special Needs in New York City.

My Project

I received my assignment and entered my school in October, a whole month after most teachers, with no time to prepare and assessments on the way. My classroom does not have a whiteboard, a chalkboard, or a Smartboard, so we do a lot of experiential hands-on learning. I am asking for a Nintendo Wii and a monitor. With the Wii, my students will be able to develop fine and gross motor skills, as well as learn topics in new and exciting ways.

In a previous school, where I worked as a Paraprofessional, one of the teachers said that she wanted to use the Nintendo Wii in the classroom, and I had my own reservations.

She got the Wii, and the students responded fantastically. This is a great educational tool, and with your help, I can ensure that fun as well as instruction will take place in my classroom.
