My students need content themed games to enrich, supplement and expand their science experience. These games will support our 6th grade and Biology classes.

My Students

Students learn at varying rates and in different modes. These games will offer struggling students another avenue into the content. Students ready to extend their learning can collaborate around a game and enrich their experience.

Students in my Science Academy classes come from a wide range of ethnic, economic, and academic backgrounds.

What they have in common is a love of science and the exploration that it fosters. By self selecting into the Academy, students take two class periods of science a day, which allows them greater time for project-based learning and enrichment activities. My Prism students are highly motivated learners who constantly seek challenges. Like all classrooms they have diverse learning styles and deserve diverse teaching strategies. Games become another vehicle for us to explore science topics.

My Project

The games that I am requesting will provide resources for students who quickly absorb material to extend their learning in a highly engaging mode. Imagine finishing an assignment early because you understand the concept and you are then given more "work" to do. Yuck! Also imagine the struggling learner who is presented with the same information in the same way for a fourth time. Why expect a different result with the same approach? These games will give my struggling learners a different avenue into some of the main concepts we study during the year. Requested games include: Codon - The DNA Game, The Cell Game, and Predator - The Food Chain Game. These games explore several of the topics that we address in our 6th grade Life Science course and our gifted 8th grade Biology classes. Reviewers' comments about another requested game, Biome and Ecosystem Bingo Game, included: effective, engaging, grade level appropriate and saves time.

Science literacy in today's world is essential.

I don't expect all or even most of my students to engage in professions where they are actively using science skills learned with me but they will all live in a world infused with technology and shaped by knowledge gathered through scientific inquiry. These games provide me with one more tool to help create a science literate population.
