Give my students the satisfaction of knowing they can accomplish many new things, give them the gift of music! They need instruments so they can learn about music as well as how to play it.
Most of my students come from an urban and inner city area.
Eighty percent are on free and reduced lunch. Their families work and struggle to provide the basics for these children. They can not afford to pay for music lessons outside the home. With recent budget cuts our school also struggles to provide music, art and extra curricular activities to the students.
My Project
I teach art, music, dance and drama to approximately 500 students. I am the only art resource in the building and get little or no money for supplies. My students love music and playing instruments, however our instruments are old and falling apart. If my students had some new instruments I know they could make even more beautiful music!
My students need 30 recorders, 30 instruction books and 10 glockenspiels to help them learn musical notes.
The students in our school get little or no opportunity to lean how to play musical instruments.
I want them to have fun and get a basic understanding of music. With budget cuts and new standards the arts are getting less and less funding. My students need music to become well rounded members of society. If we only teach them to read and write what will they read and write about?
