My Students

Because the majority of my students speak another language, it is important to show value in various ways of expression. Art and music is a universal language that can transcend all. I want to provide that opportunity for my students.

We are celebrating diversity at our school and in my classroom, we represent USA, South America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

14 out of 21 students have other home languages. We have instructional assistants that speak other languages, however, we have more languages than interpreters and giving a student a voice through their own expression of art is a bridge to understanding.

My Project

We have a rigorous curriculum that sometimes does not always allow the child's expression of understanding to come forth. Through the use of the art easel and paper, it will allow them a creative space to express individual understanding of language, concepts, and dreams that are not always measurable with assessments. By providing these tools, it can give a voice to the voiceless and an understanding to the misunderstood.

Kindergarten used to be the grade we learned social skills along with creative and dramatic play.

Times are dictating assessment over assessment. Teachers can defend student performance with evidence. Not only will their art work be displayed for pleasure but as evidence of capability, learning, and being educated.
