My Students

First graders need to feel special and what better than having your own special spot on a rug. Not only will they feel special about having their own spot, but they will learn many new ways to spark their learning with this rug.

I have a group of first graders that desperately need help in learning personal space.

They tend to move around and invade others personal space while seated on the floor. They attend a school with high poverty levels. Many have never had any formal education other than a half day kindergarten program.

My Project

My first graders will benefit from having a specially designed rug in many ways. The rug I have chosen focuses on a couple of areas in our curriculum. It has the alphabet in both lower and upper case letters, which is great for those kids struggling in this area. I can teach not only letter names but letter sounds as well. It also has numbers 1-20 printed on it. In first grade we are working on adding and subtracting to 20. This carpet will be a great addition to help the kids get up and move to solve the math problems given to them. It will also help them with personal space. It provides areas for the kids to be able to sit on and not bother their classmates as they learn about keeping their hands and feet to themselves.

It is a fun and educational rug that will help the teacher and the kids make the most of their education.
