This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My kids love to work math problems on large whiteboards and then present what they did to their classmates. I created the large whiteboards I currently have by going to home depot and having shower boards cut and then duct taped the sides. Unfortunately the boards are starting to show major wear.

My students come from a high poverty area.

They are incredibly bright and love to show what they create. They have dreams of being doctors, lawyers and accountants. They dream of making something of their lives and understand what it takes to get to college and succeed. They have incredible values and are full of integrity. Everyday they teach me something about my life, something that tends to surprise me.

My Project

Imagine being in a class where you don't use a pencil and paper. Instead you collaborate with a partner, use a large whiteboard and then teach the class how you solved the problems. This is a class that I have set up and my students are highly engaged in it.

My students really enjoy learning math by working out problems and demonstrating what they did.

The large whiteboards make this happen. Unfortunately, the large whiteboards I currently have are going to have to be thrown away in about two months and it is too expensive to purchase good whiteboards that are built to last.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
